Tribute to George Allam: His Devotion to Our Reunion and Community
عربي
With the passing of George Allam on May 20th 2026, our community has lost far more than a dedicated volunteer. We have lost a pillar of our community, a tireless organizer, and a man whose love for Saidnaya and the Saidnaya community was expressed not in words alone, but through decades of quiet and selfless work. Here is a very brief summary of George’s contributions to the success of the Saidnaya Runion from 1980-2025.
Creating and Maintaining the Reunion Mailing List from 1980 to 2022
For 42 years, George assumed the responsibility of maintaining a Mailing list of the three to four hundred Saidnayain families in the United States and Canada. Throughout the year and often after every Reunion, he would update the list so that it stays current and reaches every new and relocated member. He devoted countless hours of creating, printing and mailing postcards around Reunion time. This task, added to his demanding personal workload, was a labor of love that he executed professionally and wholeheartedly.
Creating a directory of the Saidnayains in North America
In 2005, George undertook another task. He compiled a directory of the Saidnayains in North American, carefully documenting every household, address, and telephone number. This directory represented hundreds of pieces of information gathered and organized with remarkable dedication.
Registering the Reunion as a Nonprofit with the IRS
George’s commitment to the Reunion reached another milestone in 2008 when he successfully registered the Saidnaya Reunion organization as a nonprofit corporation with the Internal Revenue Service. Anyone familiar with that process understands the significant amount of work involved. It required preparing a lengthy application, gathering financial records covering several years, and engaging in extensive correspondence with the IRS. George persevered through every step because he believed in building a strong and enduring foundation for future generations, often sacrificing not only his precious time but sometimes he was contributing his own financial resources to ensure that this legacy would continue. In addition to organizing the Reunion as a nonprofit corporation, he also drafted formal bylaws that conformed to Robert's Rules of Order, ensuring that the organization would be governed fairly, professionally, and with integrity. These were not glamorous tasks. yet they were essential, and George willingly undertook them because he cared deeply about the future of the Reunion.
Filing the Reunion Taxes with the IRS 2008-2024
Year after year from 2008 to 2024, George prepared the Reunion's annual federal and state tax returns. He quietly devoted many hours to this responsibility, saving the Reunion vital financial resources and effort.
Final Words
While George was not the founder of the Reunion, he was undeniably one of its greatest caretakers. Others may have planted the seed, but for forty-five years, George faithfully watered it, nurtured it, and kept it alive through his humility, dedication, and selfless service. George's legacy lives not in titles or recognition, but in the enduring institutions, records, and traditions he thoughtfully built and maintained. He never sought recognition, titles, or praise. Instead, he quietly devoted thousands of hours to maintaining family records, organizing communications, preserving connections, establishing the Reunion as a nonprofit organization, drafting bylaws, and handling its affairs with integrity and professionalism. He was the one who sustained this tradition, strengthened it, and passed it on to future generations. Many of us have enjoyed reunions, friendships, and family connections which would have been not possible without George's dedication. We inherit the fruits of his labor, often without realizing the profound sacrifices that produced them. George was such a humble servant whose legacy is measured not by the credit he received, but by the countless lives he touched and the family bonds he helped preserve and create. Thank you, George. Your legacy will endure for generations to come.
